What data it sees

Do you need an account

No: the server works without sign-in

A read-only Reddit API and MCP server built for AI agents, coding assistants, and automation — search, monitor, and analyze real Reddit data without dealing with Reddit's own rate limits or app-approval process.

What it does:

  • Search posts & comments — by subreddit, author, or keyword, with exact-phrase filtering
  • Full comment trees — real nested replies and accurate counts, including fresh posts Reddit itself hides scores for
  • Subreddit lookup — search by name, fetch posting rules before you post or recommend posting
  • User profiles — karma, post/comment counts, activity history

Raw names from tools/list. Only developers need these.

search_postsSearch Reddit posts by subreddit and/or author, or fetch specific posts by id. Optional q= applies an exact-phrase (plural-flex) filter, but ONLY over the single page this call fetches (limit, default 25, max 100) — it is not a search across the whole after/before window. A page with zero q= matches does NOT mean no matches exist in your date range: check has_more/cursor in the response and keep calling with the returned cursor as your next after (sort=asc) or before (sort=desc) until has_more is false or you have enough. For an active subreddit, one page can span just minutes to hours, so scanning several days for a specific phrase often takes many calls. Each page costs 1 credit whether it matched or not — narrow subreddit/author/date range first if you want to control cost. If ids= includes even one invalid/malformed id, the whole call returns an 'invalid request' error (refunded, not charged) rather than silently skipping the bad id or claiming a transient outage — verify ids came from a real search result first. 1 credit per call.
search_commentsSearch Reddit comments by subreddit and/or author, or fetch specific comments by id. Comments are higher volume than posts — for an active subreddit, one page can span just minutes, so scanning several days for a specific phrase often takes many calls (dozens, for a busy subreddit). 1 credit per call.
get_comment_treeFetch the full comment tree for a post, including a real (non-blackout) comment count for posts younger than ~36h. 1 credit per call. An invalid or malformed post_id returns an 'invalid request' error (credit refunded, not charged) rather than a genuine outage — retrying with the same bad id won't help; double-check it came from a real search_posts result.
search_subredditsSearch Reddit for subreddits whose name or prefix matches the query. 1 credit per call.
get_subreddit_rulesFetch the posted rules for a subreddit. 1 credit per call.
get_user_profileFetch a Reddit user's profile aggregate (karma, post/comment counts, first/last activity) by exact username. 1 credit per call, charged even if the username doesn't exist (a not-found lookup still made a real upstream call) — a miss comes back as data.user: null, not an error.
check_creditsCheck your remaining ThreadSnoop API credit balance and rate limit. Free — 0 credits.
