Connect your Fiveable teacher workspace to your AI assistant for AP grading and class preparation.

  • Grade finished AP free responses as drafts for teacher review and approval.
  • Build warm-ups, exit tickets, worksheets, and review activities from Fiveable’s AP question bank, with answer keys and stimuli.
  • Create classes and assignment drafts, and use class, topic, and skill results to plan reteaching.

Publishing assignments, changing publication dates, releasing results, and sending approved grades to Google Classroom require a preview and explicit confirmation. Google Classroom and Google Sheets integrations are optional and require separate setup on Fiveable.

Teacher workspace tools require a Fiveable account and OAuth sign-in. Availability and allowances depend on the account’s plan.

Raw names from tools/list. Only developers need these.

get_my_teacher_workspaceOrientation for the signed-in teacher's Fiveable teacher workspace: their classes, how much coursework is waiting for review or due this week, how many of their included assignments are left, and which Google connections are set up. Call this first in a new conversation. Cheap.
list_classesLists the classes in the signed-in teacher's Fiveable teacher workspace with subject, student count and class id. Use it to turn names like 'period 3' or 'my APUSH classes' into class ids for other tools. Cheap.
get_classOne class in the teacher's workspace: subject, roster (students by handle and short name), the class's assignment defaults, and the student links of assignments currently open to it. Students join a class by opening one of those links; there are no class codes. Cheap.
list_courseworkLists the teacher's assignments and grading sessions from their /assignments ledger: status, class, due date, how many students turned it in (of the roster, once the class has one), how many need review, and the class average. status: active shows what is open to students right now. Filter by class, subject or status. Use it to find an assignment id. Cheap.
get_assignmentOne assignment's setup: its sections and question counts, scoring and timing settings, and each class it is published to with due dates and the student link. Use preview_question to read a question with its key. Cheap.
get_assignment_statusWhere each student is on one assignment: in progress, submitted, scored, or waiting for review, with their score when results are available. Students appear by handle and short name. Use it for 'who hasn't finished?' or 'how did period 5 do?'. Cheap.
get_class_insightsHow a class (or all the teacher's classes) is doing on Fiveable assignments: accuracy and FRQ points with change over time, each assignment's turn-in rate and average, and each student's average with flags (missing work, dropping, improving), weakest first. Scope by class, subject, assignment or time window. Moderate cost.
get_student_insightsOne student's Fiveable work: average, missing work, each assignment's score, weakest units and topics, and skill progress. Takes the student's handle (S-…) from get_class_insights or get_assignment_status. Use it for conference prep, parent notes, or a personal reteach plan. Moderate cost.
get_reteach_gapsWhat to reteach: the topics, units, CED skills and FRQ rubric rows where the class lost the most points on Fiveable assignments, ranked. Scope by class, subject, assignment or time window. Follow up with get_content_sections for the teaching material and search_question_bank for practice. Moderate cost.
get_skill_insightsClass progress on AP course skills (for example causation or contextualization): each skill's verdict (solid, improving, stuck, developing, building), average, trend, the students who need support most, and the units to revisit. Says so when evidence is limited instead of guessing. Works best scoped to one subject. Moderate cost.
get_assignment_question_breakdownPer-question results for one assignment: percent correct and how many students picked each answer choice (so you can see which wrong answer pulled them), plus FRQ part-by-part full-credit rates. Use it for 'which questions went worst?'. Moderate cost.
search_question_bankSearches Fiveable's question bank for one subject (the same bank as the assignment builder): multiple choice, stimulus sets, SAQs and FRQs, filtered by unit, topic, skill, format and stimulus, optionally hiding questions this teacher already published. For AP Calculus, pass courseVariant so AB leaves out BC-only units, topics and FRQs. Returns ids, short stems and alignment, never answers. Use exact unit/topic/skill labels from the filter lists in the result. Cheap.
preview_questionShows one question from the bank the way a teacher reviews it: the stimulus first, then the question, the choices with the correct answer marked, and the explanation. Stimulus sets include every linked question with its key. Teacher-only: keep keys out of student copies. Cheap.
get_questions_for_materialsPulls up to 40 bank questions with answer keys, explanations and their stimuli, ready to turn into slides, worksheets, exit tickets, review games or study packets in your own tools. Keep every stimulus with its questions, put keys on a separate page, and keep the Fiveable attribution line. Offer to turn gradable material into a Fiveable assignment later. Counts against the content budget.
get_guide_reading_questionsReading-check questions with keys for one Fiveable study guide: Fiveable's curated set when one exists, otherwise questions generated from the guide (slower). Use for exit tickets, reading quizzes or guided reading handouts. Takes a guide id from get_subject_outline or get_unit_overview.
get_guided_notesAMSCO textbook guided-notes prompts with answer keys for one chapter, for subjects that have AMSCO notes (for example AP US History). Without a chapter it lists the chapters. Use for guided notes handouts and reading checks. Cheap.
list_subjectsLists every AP subject Fiveable covers, with its canonical subject slug and flags for which features exist for that subject (practice questions, key terms, score calculator). Suitable when a subject slug is not already known. Cheap — roughly 1-2k tokens.
get_subject_outlineReturns the full unit and topic outline for one AP subject, including every study guide slug in each unit. Provides the course map for study planning and individual guide retrieval. Moderate cost — roughly 2-5k tokens depending on subject size.
get_study_guideReturns the full text of one Fiveable AP study guide as Markdown. Accepts the exact canonical guide reference or a close approximation of its title. Suitable when a student asks to learn or review a topic. It consumes one full-content preview for a free caller unless existing access covers this subject and feature. Expensive — a full guide can be 3-8k tokens.
get_unit_overviewReturns the overview page for one unit of an AP course: what it covers, how it is weighted on the exam, its topics and study plan. Suitable when a student is reviewing a whole unit. Moderate cost — roughly 1-3k tokens.
list_key_termsLists the key vocabulary terms for an AP subject, paginated alphabetically. Suitable for building flashcards or checking what vocabulary a student should know; results include stable term slugs for full definitions. Cheap.
get_key_termReturns the full definition, context and related terms for one AP key term. Use when a student asks "what does X mean" for AP vocabulary. Cheap — usually under 1k tokens.
search_contentKeyword search across every Fiveable study guide, unit, subject hub and key term. Suitable when the relevant subject or guide is not known. Returns titles and canonical references rather than full content, so it is cheap.
get_content_sectionsReturns a small set of passages from Fiveable study guides that are most relevant to one question. Use this for narrow explanations, research questions, and checking student notes instead of fetching a full guide. One call consumes one full-content preview for a free caller.
list_frqsLists Fiveable's free-response (FRQ) practice prompts for an AP subject, optionally filtered by FRQ type, unit, and excluded IDs. Results use stable ID order; unchanged filters continue pagination. Returns prompt ids and summaries rather than full prompts. Cheap.
get_frqReturns one full, original Fiveable FRQ prompt: stimulus, background and every lettered part with its point value. The returned prompt is eligible for Fiveable's saved scoring workflow after the student writes a response. It consumes one full-content preview unless existing access covers this FRQ. Moderate cost — 1-4k tokens.
get_exam_optionsFind Fiveable exam formats, access requirements and website links without questions or answer keys. Choose a subject for version choices; add unitNumber to verify that unit's current bank and standard format.
list_cheatsheetsFind approved Fiveable course and unit PDFs, including course variants, academic year when known, source links and readable-artifact readiness. Does not include user galleries or generated personal visuals.
get_cheatsheetRead bounded pages from a prepared official Fiveable PDF, with page citations, extracted text and actual page images for formulas and diagrams. Image-only pages are not transcribed by guessing. If artifacts are unavailable, use the approved PDF link; this read never starts processing.
report_content_issueSubmit a content issue to Fiveable support only when the student explicitly asks to report it. This may lead to normal support follow-up. Do not automatically report disagreements or send conversation history, unrelated notes, or personal information. Fiveable resolves the content and reporter identity. Reuse requestId on retries.
create_classesCreates one or more classes in the teacher's workspace, e.g. three AP Bio periods. Students join a class by opening an assignment's class link (there are no class codes), or the teacher adds them with add_students. Undo with archive_class.
update_classRenames a class, changes its subject, or sets an AP Calculus class's course (AB or BC). Returns the previous values so the change can be undone with another update_class.
archive_classArchives a class the teacher created (it leaves the class list; nothing is deleted), or restores an archived one with archived: false. Co-taught classes can only be archived by their owner.
set_class_assignment_defaultsSets a class's assignment defaults (scoring mode, timer, attempts, result release, notifications) so new assignments for that class start with them. Replaces the previous defaults and returns them for undo.
add_studentsAdds students to a class roster. Read the teacher's pasted roster yourself and send each student once, with the name in First Last order (turn "Doe, Jane" into "Jane Doe") and their email when given. Students already on the roster are matched, not duplicated. Emails are used only for assignment notifications and are never shown back. Undo with remove_students.
update_studentFixes a student's name on a class roster (the old name is kept as an alias so past work still matches), or sets the email used for assignment notifications. Students with Fiveable accounts can be renamed but their email comes from their account.
remove_studentsRemoves students (by handle) from a class roster, e.g. a student who dropped. Their past work stays in the teacher's results. Returns an undoId: restore_students puts them back exactly, within seven days.
restore_studentsPuts students removed with remove_students back on their class roster exactly as they were.
create_assignment_draftBuilds an assignment draft in the teacher's workspace from sections: multiple choice chosen from units and topics (the builder's own selection, skipping questions already assigned), Fiveable FRQs or SAQs by id, readings (with optional reading-check questions), or a diagnostic. Settings start from the first class's defaults. AP Calculus drafts are for one course: pass courseVariant, or target classes that share one. Returns the draft id and its review link. Drafts never use an included assignment slot.
update_assignment_draftChanges a draft: title, instructions, AP Calculus course, classes and due dates, settings, or sections (add new sections, remove sections by the ids get_assignment returns). Published assignments can't be changed here. Returns an undoId for restore_assignment_draft.
restore_assignment_draftUndoes an update_assignment_draft, putting the draft back exactly as it was.
list_teaching_resourcesLists the readings a teacher can put in an assignment for one subject: study guides, unit reviews, AMSCO guided notes, key terms and cheatsheets, with their resource ids for create_assignment_draft reading sections. Filter by kind, unit or words. Cheap.
duplicate_assignmentCopies any of the teacher's assignments (including last year's or archived ones) into a new draft with the same questions and settings, ready to retarget with update_assignment_draft. Undo with archive_assignment.
archive_assignmentArchives an unpublished draft (it leaves the coursework list; nothing is deleted) or restores an archived draft with archived: false. Published assignments are archived on the website.
preview_assignment_as_studentWhat a student will see when they open the assignment: instructions and each section in order. Answers are hidden, as they are for students. Diagnostics can't be previewed. Cheap.
list_grading_sessionsThe teacher's grading sessions for work done outside Fiveable (stacks of essays graded in the workspace), newest first, with essay, scored and approved counts. Use to resume a stack. Cheap.
create_grading_sessionStarts a workspace grading session for a stack of finished student work (paper, Google Docs, an AP Classroom export). The prompt is a Fiveable FRQ or SAQ id from search_question_bank, or the teacher's own question pasted in `prompt`; never look one up elsewhere. A grading session uses one of the teacher's included assignments when grading starts, unless the account has unlimited assignments. Next: import_essays_from_text or import_essays_from_files, then get_grading_rubric.
get_grading_rubricShows the scoring guidelines Fiveable will grade this session against, point by point, so the teacher can check them before scoring. If they aren't written yet this starts writing them (about a minute) and says to call again. Rubrics are written exactly as on the Fiveable website, on the AP rubric for the question type. Cheap once written.
update_grading_rubricBefore any essay is scored: switch to a different Fiveable question, or replace the teacher's own question text or its AP question type. Fiveable rewrites the rubric from the new prompt on that type's AP rubric and point total; call get_grading_rubric to see it. Returns the previous prompt so it can be put back.
import_essays_from_textAdds student responses supplied as text: pasted by the teacher, from downloaded documents, or transcribed from photos. Split them one per student yourself and send each with the student's name as written. For transcriptions, show the teacher your transcription and get their ok first, then set transcribedFromPhotos. Returns counts only.
import_essays_from_filesSplits files the teacher dropped into chat into one essay per student and adds them: a PDF or Word stack (including an AP Classroom 'FRQ Response PDFs, By Student Page Break' export) or photos of handwritten work (one essay per photo, read by Fiveable). In ChatGPT, pass files the teacher attached as uploads (up to 3, 25 MB each); otherwise send up to 3 files as base64, about 3 MB in total. Returns counts and warnings only. Can take up to a minute for a long PDF.
list_google_classroom_workWalks the teacher's Google Classroom: with no ids, their courses; with a course id, its assignments; with a course and assignment id, who turned it in, each with a handle (T-…) and a link to the turned-in file. Use it to grade typed work collected in Classroom. Needs the teacher's Google Classroom connection.
import_essays_from_google_classroomAdds Google Classroom turn-ins to a grading session. Send each turn-in handle from list_google_classroom_work. Fiveable reads authorized Google Docs directly; optional teacher-provided text supports other files or files without Google access. Student names come from the Classroom roster, submissions already in the session are skipped, and the session remembers the Classroom assignment so approved grades can be sent back later. Returns counts only.
start_gradingStarts AI grading for every essay in the session that isn't scored yet, against the rubric from get_grading_rubric (written first if needed). Runs in the background and returns right away; check with get_grading_progress. Set retryFailed to also retry essays that failed before. Scores are drafts until the teacher approves them.
get_grading_progressHow far grading has got: scored, still to score, failed and approved counts, and whether the background job is running, done or stopped. Cheap; call it when the teacher asks, not in a tight loop.
get_grading_resultsClass results for a grading session: average, score distribution, how the class did on each rubric part, common gaps, and a table of essays (handle, short name, score, status, what to check). Filter to the ones that need review, drafts, approved or failed. Scores marked AI draft aren't approved yet.
rescore_essayRetries AI grading for one essay whose scoring failed. Runs in the background like start_grading. To change a score that already exists, use override_essay_score instead.
get_essay_feedbackOne essay's score and feedback part by part, what the teacher changed, and whether it's approved. Set includeText only when the teacher wants to read the response itself.
override_essay_scoreChanges the points on one rubric part of a scored essay, with the teacher's reason. The change is logged and the total recalculated, as on the website. Undo by setting the part back to its previous points.
approve_essaysMarks scored essays approved (the teacher stands behind the score), or unapproves them with approve: false. Pass essay handles, or all: true for every scored essay not yet approved. Only approved essays go to Google Classroom. Undo with the same handles and approve: false.
