    How to connect cpsc-recalls-mcp-server to Claude

    The server address to paste into Claude settings:

    1. Open Claude (claude.ai or the desktop app).
    2. Go to Settings → Connectors.
    3. Click Add custom connector.
    4. Paste the server address copied below into Remote MCP server URL and click Add.
    5. In a chat, click + → Connectors and switch the new connector on.

    Custom connectors are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans (Free is limited to one). On Team and Enterprise an organization Owner adds the connector first under Organization settings → Connectors.

    Authorization

    After you click Add, a sign-in window for the service opens. Sign in with your own account and approve access. Claude never sees your password.

    How to connect cpsc-recalls-mcp-server to ChatGPT

    The server address to paste into ChatGPT settings:

    1. Open ChatGPT in a browser (chatgpt.com). A Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu plan is required.
    2. Turn on developer mode once: Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode.
    3. Open Settings → Connectors and click Create.
    4. Fill in the form: Name (anything), Description (one line about what the service does), MCP server URL (copy it below).
    5. Under Authentication choose OAuth if the service requires sign-in, otherwise None. Click Create.
    6. In a new chat open + → Apps/Connectors and enable the connector.

    OpenAI has renamed this section before (Connectors → Apps/Plugins). If the label differs, search settings for "developer mode". On Business/Enterprise workspaces an admin must allow custom connectors first.

    Authorization

    On first use ChatGPT opens the service's sign-in window. Sign in and approve access.

    Manually:

    1. In Cursor open Settings → Cursor Settings → MCP and click Add new global MCP server.
    2. Paste the JSON copied below into ~/.cursor/mcp.json (per project: .cursor/mcp.json in the repo root).
    3. Save the file. The server appears in the MCP list; authorize it there if asked.

    cpsc_search_recallsSearch consumer product recalls from the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) database. Covers toys, electronics, furniture, appliances, children's products, tools, and clothing — everything under CPSC jurisdiction. Does NOT cover food/drugs (FDA), motor vehicles/tires (NHTSA), boats (USCG), or pesticides (EPA). All filter fields are optional substring matches that combine with AND. Start with title_search when you have a product in hand — CPSC titles carry the brand, product, and hazard phrasing. For hazard-type filtering ("fire", "choking", "burn"), use hazard_search, which matches hazard text, product names, and remedy instructions in one pass. When manufacturer returns no results, try importer, retailer, or distributor: many recalls list one of those as the primary responsible org. Page past limit with offset — total_found and has_more say where the window sits in the full result set. Use cpsc_get_recall with a recall_number from results to retrieve the full record including complete description, all images, and incident reports.
    cpsc_get_recallFull detail for a single CPSC recall by recall number. Returns the complete record: hazard description, remedy instructions, all product variants, incident/injury reports, images, and the official CPSC recall page URL. Use after cpsc_search_recalls or cpsc_get_recent to get the full picture on a specific recall. CPSC jurisdiction: consumer products only — food, vehicles, drugs, and pesticides are covered by other agencies.
    cpsc_get_recentFetch the most recent CPSC consumer product recalls, ordered newest-first. Use for "what's been recalled lately?" or a product safety feed. Always applies a date window (default: last 30 days) — without a date filter the API returns all 9,800+ records. Page past limit with offset: narrowing days cannot page, because the window is anchored to today and shrinking it drops the oldest records rather than advancing past the newest. CPSC jurisdiction: consumer products only — food, vehicles, drugs, and pesticides are covered by other agencies.
